 southside of Sydney in 1995 and is one of the longest standing local practices
still under original ownership.

Our physiotherapy practice in Caringbah is comprised
of experienced Sports Physiotherapists who are well known for their

Glenn Colaco

Founding Partner and Principal Physiotherapist at Sports Physiotherapy South since 1995. Glenn Colaco has been ‘making the best better’ for over 30 years.

Glenn Colaco is a highly experienced sports physiotherapist with a Post Graduate Degree in Sports Physiotherapy. Glenn was one of the first physiotherapists in Australia to achieve the prestigious APA Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist qualification. Glenn heads the team at Sports Physio South and has worked in the Sutherland Shire for over 25 years.

Glenn Colaco has extensive experience working with elite national teams in a variety of sports. Glenn has toured in Australia and overseas with local, state, national and international athletes and teams competing at major sporting events and competitions, including world championships and at Olympic Games.

Glenn Colaco is an expert in treating spinal, rib and pelvic conditions and has additional training in Muscle Energy Technique (MET), the McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT), Dry Needling and Clinical Pilates based therapy and functional rehabilitation.

Glenn also provides Bradcliff Breathing Method® assessment, diagnosis and management of functional breathing pattern disorders.

From his extensive work with aquatic sports and throwing athletes, Glenn has developed a high level of expertise in shoulder problems.

Glenn's special clinical interests are in the treatment of all sports injuries, especially complex shoulder and lower limb issues.

Glenn has a keen interest in biomechanics and its relationship to injuries, rehabilitation and return to sport and/or work. He also has extensive experience in orthopaedic rehabilitation and casting.

Glenn’s personal competitive experience and his professional work with top athletes from cycling, triathlon, cricket, track and field athletics, rugby league, and rugby union makes him an expert with all running and cycling related injuries especially overuse injuries of the lower limb and pelvis, injuries of the hip and groin, and tendon injuries or issues.

Glenn Colaco was the NSW President of the APA Sports Physiotherapy Group for many years. He has advised and lectured extensively to community based groups, sporting teams, state and national coaches, doctors, and other physiotherapists including post graduate sports physio students at Sydney University.

Glenn has been the official physiotherapist looking after athletes and teams from various sports including but not limited to: Swimming, Water Polo, Surf Life Saving, Rowing, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Australian Rules Football, Soccer, BMX, mountain biking, track and road cyclists, Cricket, Softball, Baseball, Gymnastics, Netball, Basketball, Athletics, Triathlon, Running clubs, Fun Runs through to Ultra marathons, Volleyball, Tennis, lawn bowls and golf.

Glenn continues to enjoy cycling and also participating in anything aquatic especially bodysurfing, surf ski and stand up paddle boarding.

Jan Colaco

Jan Colaco is passionate about helping her patients of all ages achieve their goals – whether it is to get back to the sporting field or workplace, or to remain living independently at home.

Founding Partner and Principal Physiotherapist at Sports Physiotherapy South since 1995.

Jan has over 30 years of extensive experience in spinal manual therapy including manipulative therapy, rehabilitation and the management of chronic pain using evidence based treatments.

Jan Colaco is a recognised APA Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist, and has worked extensively as an elite sports physiotherapist in Australia and on tour internationally with a wide range of athletes and sporting teams, from local junior athletes through to Australian Representative and Olympic level. She has provided professional physiotherapy for Water Polo, Hockey, Surf Life Saving, Swimming, Snow boarding, Snow skiing, Rowing, Australian Touch Football, OzTag, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Australian Rules Football, Soccer, cycling, Cricket, Softball, Baseball, Dancing, Gymnastics, Netball, Basketball, Athletics, Triathlon, Running clubs from Fun Runs through to Marathons, Motor bike riding, Golf, Equestrian, Boxing and Tennis.

Her work with elite athletes has given Jan insight into the need to pay attention to small details in a clients presentation, and to the biomechanics behind every component of the movement chain. With an eye for detail combined with her extensive knowledge Jan is able to quickly and accurately identify the underlying causes behind complex musculoskeletal presentations.

Jan Colaco is a highly experienced physiotherapist skilled in taking a combined approach to manual therapy, using techniques from Maitland, Muscle Energy Technique (MET), McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT), Kaltenborn (Nordic Manual therapy), Mulligans mobilizations with movement (MWMS), Dry Needling and Clinical Pilates based therapy and functional rehabilitation.

With nearly 30 years providing onsite visits to all manner of workplaces including farms, factories, shopfronts and offices, Jan Colaco has extensive experience in ergonomics and workplace assessment.  Jan can set up the work environment at home or in the office so that clients are working in an optimal manner with correct ergonomic posture, to maximise efficiency and minimize risk of injury.

Jan has an interest in mindfulness based stress reduction. She is interested in educating patients in how to retrain the brain to facilitate neural pathways to enhance recovery. This is particularly useful for chronic pain.

Jan Colaco is dedicated to ensuring that the clinical setting at Sports Physiotherapy South is fully equipped to give the greatest benefit to all patients, and that the treatment protocols followed by our physiotherapists  are evidence based and backed by the latest scientific research.

Jan Colaco has advised and lectured extensively to community based groups, sporting teams, sports trainers and coaches, doctors, and other physiotherapists.

Jan’s has many years personal experience playing indoor and field hockey, OzTag, Touch Football, horse riding, swimming and competing in surf lifesaving, As the mother of two very active athletic children, Jan understands all too well the time constraints of the modern parent and family unit, and the commitment required to be an elite competitor. She aims to provide time-effective treatment and home programs to maximise the speed of your recovery.

Jan suffered several major injuries herself over the many years she played hockey and rode horses so she can also understand recovery from injury from a patients’ perspective.

James Karagiannis

Physiotherapist and Exercise Physiologist. James Karagiannis is a dual degree qualified physiotherapist and accredited Exercise Physiologist.

James is passionate about treating a wide range of acute and chronic conditions for any client, regardless of age, gender or experience. He aims to empower individuals to take their health and wellbeing into their own hands.

James has worked for a number of years as an Exercise Physiologist, and as a Physiotherapist. This additional experience has given him an in-depth understanding and appreciation of muscle pain and dysfunction, and in prescription of graded exercise for a wide range of clinical presentations. James has a broad range of experience using both exercise therapy and also manual therapy techniques to treat acute sporting injuries, sub-acute and also chronic musculoskeletal injuries and neurological conditions.

Outside of work James has represented his surf lifesaving club at state, national and international levels. As an Australian champion beach sprinter James has a detailed understanding of the training volumes and loads for both land and aquatic athletes. This has developed into a keen interest in running injuries, and also in movement analysis, biomechanics and load management of athletes. As such James is well placed to analyze, assess and treat our track and field and surf lifesaving clients.

After a thorough assessment, James places great importance in discussing the probable cause of a problem with his patients and applying the appropriate treatment. He applies this approach to aid recovery from conditions ranging from back pain to sporting injuries, for patients of all ages.

When not in the clinic James enjoys playing soccer, golf and watching any sports match that he can.
