All assessments & treatments are provided by highly qualified and very experienced physiotherapists. All our physiotherapists have additional professional specialty titles or post graduate qualifications in addition to their Australian university level physiotherapy qualifications.

Do I need a doctors referral?
Doctor's referrals are not essential for private treatment. Though many of our patients are referred to us by their GP or specialists, you don't need to have a referral to see one of our professional physiotherapists.

A referral from your doctor is needed for treatment to be covered by Worker's Compensation (SIRA), Compulsory Third Party (CTP), or for treatment to be covered by Veterans Affairs (DVA).

A referral is needed to claim a rebate for physiotherapy treatment through Medicare. This referral is only available from your GP for people with complex or long standing (chronic) health conditions under an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) / Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan. Please discuss this with your GP.



How many visits will I need?
This question is difficult to answer without a prior examination. It depends on many factors including the severity of your condition, your age, your general health and of course how well you follow our advice!



Can you refer me for X-Rays and MRI's if needed?
Yes we can refer our patients for x-Rays and MRI scans. Most X-Ray’s are covered by medicare with a physio referral.



Should I see a chiropractor or a physiotherapist or an osteopath for my back pain or neck pain?
At Sports Physiotherapy South we have highly qualified physiotherapists who are experts in the assessment, diagnosis & treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions including back pain. Our aim is to get you back to your best as quickly as possible

We are skilled in a wide range of evidence based treatment techniques to treat neck and back pain including soft tissue releases, joint mobilisation, manipulation (chiropractic adjustments), and muscle energy techniques (osteopathic). Our physiotherapists educate their clients in self-management strategies like stretches and functional exercises.

Can I get massage?
Yes, our physiotherapists employ massage techniques in treating their patients. Pain, stiffness, trigger points, muscle tension and other conditions respond well to massage, but it is just one modality in a long list of hands on treatments that our physiotherapists are trained in.

Does it matter if your physio was trained in Australia?
Australian trained physiotherapists are recognised worldwide as having superior training and skills as primary contact practitioners.

Overseas trained physiotherapists are not recognised in Australia. They must work under strict guidance and clinical supervision, receiving additional training, and must pass a series of exams set by the Australian Physiotherapy Council before they can gain unconditional Australian registration.

Our physiotherapists have graduated from Australian Universities with Physiotherapy degrees, Masters or Doctorates.

How soon should I see a physiotherapist after I have injured myself?
The sooner the better.

Treatment from one of our physiotherapists will speed up your rate of healing and recovery, reduce any chance of chronic pain or excessive scar tissue developing, and allow you to immediately start on the best course of action for your condition.

Where there is an injury or a problem with muscle, tendon, joint, bone, ligament or nerve tissue, seeing one of our experienced physiotherapists ASAP will give you the best results.

The human body has an amazing capacity for healing. In physiotherapy we assist the body to heal itself more quickly than it would on its own, without the use of medications or surgery. Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes. Please phone our friendly reception staff and they will organise an appointment for you at our Caringbah location and answer any questions you may have regarding treatment.

We operate on an appointment only basis In order to accommodate each patient’s schedule, and to allow for a smooth efficient flow of clients attending our physio clinic. We do offer same day physiotherapy appointments wherever possible for urgent requests.

What will happen during my physiotherapy consultation?
Every person and injury is different. Your physiotherapist will tailor your session to suit your particular needs and state of health.

Our appointments allow for our physiotherapist to spend the entire consult with their client. Please allow at least 30 minutes (and up to an hour) for your appointment.

We will ask you some questions about your medical history and your current problem. Your physiotherapist will conduct a comprehensive professional examination to accurately identify the cause of your problem. Your diagnosis will be carefully explained and discussed with you, to help you understand what is wrong. A treatment plan will be made with you that takes into account your lifestyle, goals, leisure activities and general health.

Treatment will begin on the first visit, providing the latest evidence based hands on treatments to help get you back to your best as quickly as possible. Throughout your treatment program your physiotherapist will evaluate your progress at regular intervals and modify your treatment and goals accordingly.

We will provide you with an individually designed and guided home exercise program, and advice so that you will be able to aid your recovery and to help you to manage your condition independently for the longer term.



What should I bring to my appointment?
To make things easier for you the following checklist will help guide what you should bring to your appointment:

  • If you are a new patient please arrive 5-10 minutes before your appointment time to complete a personal details form.
  • We want you to be comfortable - unrestrictive or athletic clothing is highly recommended for all sessions. Please bring appropriate comfortable clothing such as a pair of shorts if we are treating a knee or leg problem. For neck or shoulder problems some women prefer to wear a training top or a thin strap singlet. If you are coming straight from work, or have forgotten to wear or bring unrestrictive clothing, don't worry we have a range of shorts, t-shirts and hospital gowns available for your use.
  • It can be useful to bring relevant sporting equipment or clothing - for example your usual walking or running shoes. Your physiotherapist can tell a lot from the way your shoes are wearing and can advise if they are appropriate for your needs.
  • If you have a doctor's referral or reports relating to your condition please bring them along. A doctor's referral is only required for workers compensation, Third Party insurance, Medicare claims (EPC or CDM), or Veteran's Affairs (DVA).
  • Any X-rays, CT, ultrasound or MRI scans: related to your conditionList of current medications
  • Private health fund card if you have private health extras cover
  • Cash, debit card or credit card
  • For Veterans Affairs clients: DVA Card & a D904 doctors referral form.
  • For workers compensation or CTP claims - please bring the details of your insurance company or employers contact information, claim number, contact details for your case manager, your date of injury, and your doctors referral. All our physiotherapists are accredited and approved by SIRA (Workcover and CTP)


What if I am unwell? What precautions for COVID or other illnesses should I be aware of?
Sports Physiotherapy South follows NSW Health Guidelines to prevent spread of COVID and all other infectious diseases. We do ask that you cancel or reschedule your appointment if you are sick or acutely unwell with COVID or any infectious disease including colds, flus, or gastro.

All our staff are vaccinated against COVID and have completed additional infection control training. All products used for cleaning and our hygiene practices are suitable for COVID and other virus, fungal or bacterial contamination.

All rooms have individual air conditioning units for continuous airflow, and individual air purifiers to enable “clean air”

What should I do if I am unable to make it to my appointment?
In order to accommodate each patient's schedule and for the efficient operation of our practice your appointment is a time slot that is held specifically for you. Please notify reception as soon as possible if you If you are unable to attend your next scheduled appointment. We ask that you give a minimum of 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule appointments. This provides the practice with an opportunity to offer the appointment to other patients.

If an appointment is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, or you do not attend your appointment the practice may, at its discretion, charge you for the consultation.

CTP Insurance and Workers Compensation Insurance do not generally cover charges for non attendance. These charges will need to be met by the patient.



Will I always have the same Physiotherapist?
It is our policy to try to schedule you with the same Physiotherapist over the course of your treatment. Occasionally, substitutions must be made because of illness or holidays, but we will inform you of this as early as possible. On other occasions, your Physiotherapist may recommend that you visit with another member of the team, who has additional expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of your condition. If, at any time over the course of your treatment, you would prefer to visit with another Physiotherapist, please inform our reception team and they can re-schedule your appointment for you.



Fees & Claims

Can I claim treatments on my Private Health fund or medicare?
If you have extras cover as part of your private Health Insurance, physiotherapy will most likely be covered. Health fund rebates are available for most of our services. You do not need a doctor’s referral to claim through your health fund. All health funds have different rebates which depend on your level of "extras" cover, we suggest you call your fund for more information on your cover.

Sports Physio South can automatically claim your rebate from your private health fund card on the spot through Hicaps at the time of payment. Please bring your Private Health Insurance Card with you for use of this facility. The remaining gap (if any) can be paid by cash, eftpos, VISA or Mastercard.

Medicare does not normally cover the costs of physiotherapy treatment. A doctors referral is needed to claim for physiotherapy treatment to be rebated by Medicare. This referral is only available from your GP for people with complex or long standing (chronic) health conditions under an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) or Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan. Please discuss this with your GP.

What are your fees?
Fees vary between practitioners, length of treatment and 3rd party claims. Please phone us for up to date prices.

Fees are payable on the day, at the time of consultation.
